All new students at ALC are required to take a placement test. The English Language Placement test was designed by the English Language Department at the University of Michigan, in collaboration with Oxford University. This non-diagnostic, objectively scored test is designed to quickly place English language students into homogeneous ability levels. ALC has chosen this test over others, as we have found it to be an effective assessment and evaluation tool. The test provides a clear indicator of English levels, indicates specific areas of weakness and provides objective feedback on students’ English language development over time.
The test is comprised of 200 multiple-choice and the administration time is approximately 75 minutes. The test is divided into four sections:
- Part A: Listening Comprehension
- Part B: Grammar
- Part C: Vocabulary
- Part D: Reading
